Obituary for Kathleen McDonnough
Kathleen Joyce McDonnough, affectionately known as “Ms. Tiny”, “Mama Tee”, and “Ms. Mac”, was born on June 21, 1934, in the parish of St. Ann, Jamaica. She attended St. Ann’s Bay Primary School.
As a young girl growing up, Kathleen spent time with her Aunt “Sis” in St. Mary, Jamaica. Even though her time with her aunt was short, she learned a lot from her about being a strong woman. She later used all her life lessons from those formative years to demonstrate her independence and strong work ethic. This strong
work ethic was evident in her profession as a successful stream stress, even as a young woman.
“Ms. Tiny” was a natural, down to earth, and practical person, who did not necessarily follow what others were doing. She enjoyed moving around on her bicycle, which she gladly and proudly rode anywhere she was going. She continued to ride her bicycle into her 80’s, and she always did so with a smile.
After leaving St. Mary and moving back to St. Ann’s Bay, she met Cecil Chung. They became a couple and the union produced six children: Leonie, Stanley, Eddie, Troy, Chantelle, and Junior. Her children inherited her strong independence and “never say die” attitude. She was a loving, devoted and nurturing mother to all of her children. She is also seen as an “adopted mother” to her children’s friends, as well as her extended family.
“Ms. Tiny” always found a way to feed a crowd of her children and their friends, regardless of the situation. She knew exactly how to “tun yuh han ‘n mek fashion” as the typical Jamaican would say.
She was very often surrounded by the friends of her children, who
treated her like a second mother.
She was so devoted to her family that she would baby sit all her grandchildren, wherever they were, whether in Jamaica, St. Kitts, Florida, or Oklahoma. When she moved to Florida, she became a member of the Unity Seventh Day Adventist Church. Those who knew Miss Tiny can attest to her sharp wit and keen sense of humor. She enjoyed listening to music, singing, and taking photographs. She is survived by her 6 children, 17 grandchildren, and 3 great- grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed.
