Obituary for George Edwards

George Edwards was born on June 23, 1942, to the late
Elsie and Johnnie Edwards, in Coffee County, Georgia.
He was the 10th child of 13 siblings.
George received his formative education in
Coffee County and secondary education
in Ocilla, GA, graduating from Ocilla
Industrial High School in 1963. He
attended Monroe Technical and
Mechanical Vocational School in
Albany, GA, earning his certificate of
completion in auto body repair.

He moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL, where he established his own auto
body repair shop. Shortly thereafter, he met the love of his life, Brenda
Hamm. After a brief courtship, they married in 1968. From this union,
they were blessed with a beautiful, caring daughter, Harriet Michelle
Edwards Fordham.
After operating his auto body shop for a period of time, George began a
new career with the State of Florida at the Department of Transportation.
He was a conscientious worker, retiring in 2005.
He was a faithful member of Harris Chapel United Methodist Church. He
worked in many capacities of the church organization: Church Trustee
Board, Usher Board, Church Choir, United Methodist Men, Church Bus
Driver, Church “go to guy”, and he worked with the Bountiful Blessing
Program for 17 years. He was a member of the Masonic Kazah Chapter
#149 and a member of the Shriners.
During George’s life span, he raised several dogs, birds, and chickens. He
always planted his vegetable garden every season and shared its produce
with neighbors and friends. Holidays were met with anticipation of
George’s savory barbeque ribs and chicken as well as other morsel bites.
George leaves his cherished memories to his: devoted and loving
wife, Brenda; daughter, Michelle (Charles) of Daytona Beach, FL; two
grandsons, Harrington Maurice Smith and Charles Howell Fordham
III, both of Daytona Beach, FL; sisters, Ruby Edwards Washington
(Eddie) of Waycross, GA and Louise Edwards Jones of Opa-locka, FL;
brother, Moses Edwards (Mary) of Douglas, GA; sister-in-law, Winnie
Mae Edwards; goddaughter, Courtney Johnson Arthur; and a host of
nieces, nephews, other relatives, and devoted friends.
